Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost' has silvery leaves with green veins and a thin green edge. They bloom from mid to late spring, with clusters of blue, forget-me-not like blossoms several inches above the stunning frosty silver leaves.
The plants grow in mounds 18 inches tall and 18 inches wide, and are hardy in zones 3 through 8. A common name for this perennial is heartleaf brunnera because of its heart-shaped leaves. The rough texture of the leaves makes brunnera a deer-resistant plant.
Brunnera do best in the shade but will tolerate morning sun if the soil remains moist. By midday, shade is essential, particularly in south-facing gardens.
Plant ‘Jack Frost’ brunnera along the front of your shade border. It can be combined with other ground cover perennials such as hostas and ferns, and it makes an excellent container plant. The silvery leaves will brighten dark areas from Spring to Fall.
